Mentoring Grade 8’s for Engineering Saturdays

Alpha Dogs members & alumni have started a new program in an effort to reach out to the community and introduce children to STEM. The program is called The Alpha Dogs Academy (ADA) or Engineering Saturdays. We help children grades six to eight apply engineering principles in a fun and educational way. Our goal with this program is to promote an interest in STEM fields. I have had the opportunity to help shape these children’s lives, and by doing so helps shape the future, making this a very meaningful experience for me.

We are providing these kids hands-on experience designing, building, and problem-solving in a fun and safe environment. Initially, the kids are split up into groups of 4 or 5 and work with a team member like myself to design and build a robot using VEX kits, these robots will later compete against the other teams in the friendly competition. Today was the second Alpha Dogs Academy meet this year, and we are already on track to building our competition robots! We call these Engineering Saturdays!
